The Center for Hydro-Optics and Remote Sensing (CHORS) carries out interdisciplinary research on bio-optical properties and remote sensing of the ocean environment. To support its projects, it maintains staff expertise, equipment inventories, and laboratory facilities for shipboard measurements of bio-optical variables (inherent and apparent optical properties), analyses of HPLC pigment concentrations, and computer processing of remotely sensed satellite imagery. Our research is focused on the development of an understanding of interaction of light with seawater constituents, variability in ocean optical properties, and developing optical methods for satellite remote sensing of the world's oceans with an emphasis on applications to ocean biogeochemistry, climate change, and marine coastal environments. CHORS is affiliated with the Computational Science Research Center at the San Diego State University (SDSU).
